| Pre-School Aquatic Programs |
Our preschool program provides children with their first pool experience without parental assistance in a safe, fun and positive learning environment. Children are led through a progressive, multi-phased program to learn the building blocks of swimming. The main components of this program are personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, rescue skills, and water sports and games. Class ratio is six swimmers to one instructor in Pike – Starfish. Ages 3-5.
PIKE
This class introduces new little swimmers to the pool and helps them become acquainted with the pool and the use of flotation devices. Little swimmers will develop safe water habits in a fun and encouraging environment. Pikes will focus on basic paddle-stroke, kicking skills, blowing bubbles, floating and pool safety. You can pick between Pike I and Pike II classes. Please see the descriptions to determine which class is best for your child.
Pike I This class is for a child who may be apprehensive in the water or who has never had swim lessons.
Pike II This class is for the beginner swimmer who is comfortable in the water but has not yet mastered Pike skills. Participants should pass Pike I or be comfortable in the water alone and getting face wet.
EEL
The eel class is for little swimmers who are well adjusted to the water and eager to learn more! Eel swimmers continue to build upon Pike skills, such as kicking and progressive paddle-stroke. Additionally they learn more about pool safety and developing independent floating skills.
RAY/STARFISH
At this level, Ray/Starfish swimmers are ready to begin developing endurance as well as improving stroke skills. Ray/Starfish are introduced to treading water, rhythmic breathing, and rescue skills. They also learn more about personal water safety.
Whether your school-age child is a new swimmer or is already swimming circles around you, our Youth Program offers a class just right for him or her. Your child will learn personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue skills. Ages 6-12.
POLLIWOG
Polliwog is the beginning level for school-age children. Polliwog swimmers learn front and back floating skills, the paddle-stroke, flutter kick, elementary backstroke, personal safety and the use of flotation devices. This class is for the school-age swimmer who has never had swim lessons.
GUPPY
Guppy swimmers continue to build confidence in their abilities by practicing paddle-stroke skills, floating, and rotary breathing without the aid of flotation devices. Children learn new skills such as treading water and survival floating. Lead-up strokes to the front crawl, back-stroke, sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke are also introduced at this level. Students must be comfortable in the deep end and be able to swim 25 yards without a flotation device.
MINNOW
At the Minnow level, children continue to refine their lead-up stroke skills and begin to sequence these movements more consistently. Students work toward performing front and back crawl, rudimentary breaststroke and elementary backstroke with whip kick and side stroke with the scissor kick. Minnow swimmers continue developing endurance by swimming 25 yards.
FISH
In the Fish level, children refine the front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and breaststroke. The butterfly is also introduced at this level. Fish swimmers continue to build endurance by swimming up to 50 yards. Stroke technique and endurance are emphasized.
FLYING FISH/SHARK
Flying Fish/Shark is an advanced level where students focus on stoke enhancements and more endurance. Open turns and treading water with rotary kick are introduced to students at this level. Students are also introduced to three new strokes: the inverted breaststroke, the trudgen crawl and the overarm sidestroke.
