Wisconsin City YMCA AAU Basketball is offered for 5th-11th grade boys and girls. Our mission is to be committed to the development of youth and high school players in their quest to reach their goals. Players in our program are exposed to experienced current and former high school and college coaches through practice sessions, our skill clinics, and in-game coaching experience. This program offers the opportunity to travel and play locally, regionally, and sometimes even nationally. This league offers high quality coaches, 2 practices per week, runs April-June/July depending on the team. Uniforms and jerseys are provided. Teams play in 5-7 tournaments.
Teams will participate in a combination of NCAA-certified college viewing events, AAU sanctioned explore tournaments, and independent organizations’ competitive events.
Each grade will be evaluated for placement on select teams as coaches look at effort, high skill level, basketball IQ, and ability to be coached.
Season runs April - June/July
Tryouts will determine which teams players are on
Players must attend at least one tryout date
Select one tryout day for $30 or come to both for $50

THE PURPOSE OF AAU BASKETBALL
City Y Hoops is set to kick off another spring/summer season of AAU Basketball! Our program is deisgned to teach kids how to compete. Through basketball, we reinforce confidence and discipline with intense workouts, practices, camps, and clinics. All players are held accountable, from coachability to effort. Teams are created and formed after the last tryout March 12 and placed in tournaments matched to each team’s competitive level. Practices begin the last week of March or the first week of April.
FACTS AND TRUSTED OPINION BY COACH D & WI CITY Y HOOPS
Coach D has 20 years of experience helping players and coaching on the AAU circuit
The purpose of AAU basketball at an early age is to keep young players in the game year-round and to continue developing skills. The gap between the skill level is smaller in younger grades. It isn’t until around 14u or 15u levels where players truly begin to gain significant size, speed, and progressing skill levels that separate their game from other players. At this level, individual players will begin to attract attention from colleges, making the platform they play on much more important. WI
CITY HOOPS FORMULA FOR SUCCESS
• COACHING MATTERS: All 12u to 17u coaches are current or former high school or college coaches with decades of experience.
• TEACHING: It’s about tryinhg to help kids become the best high school players they can be first, and then be in a position to have opportunities beyond that.
• TRAINING: This is done during practice times and extra skill training sessions.
HOW IS THIS ACHIEVED?
We will achieve these through 2-3 practice sessions per week, consistently. Open gym skill training sessions for this truly dedicated. Then we go to the best AAU sanctioned events because we’re prepared. For our 16u and 17u teams, we make college coaches aware of what AAU events and recruiting camps we will be attending during the summer.
